gravatar – stupid name, but handy nonetheless

Apparently a Gravatar is a globally recognised avatar. Hmmmm … the “globally” part of that seems a little optimistic, but no matter.

If you were to comment on this blog, or squillions of other WordPress-based blogs, or even lots of other blogs and CMS sites, you’d need a Gravatar in order to get a little picture of you to appear next to your remarks. And, as all you need to get one is a pic, an email address and around 30 seconds of your time, it seems rude not to. You can then frolic around the web at your leisure, merrily commenting on other people’s stuff. Somehow – and I can only imagine that magic and trickery are involved – your Gravatar will follow you around and gently lay itself next to your wise words. Groovy huh?

Anyway, slide on over to the Gravatar site to get yourself one. I imagine that they’d be able to give you a much better description of how it all works as well.

P.S. the girl wee-mee (“Sheri”) in the middle of the grid on their front page looks also identical to my partner Arlo’s wee-mee. Spooky.
