what i’ve been playing with this week

Useful

Simple Wikipedia
Like normal wikipedia, but written for idiots (or, if you want to be more charitable, written for children and foreign language speakers). Of course, as a self-confessed idiot, this is right up my street; finally I can understand how electricity works – something that several years of ‘O’-level physics failed to teach me. Having said that, disappointingly, Simple Wikipedia doesn’t have entries for volts or amps, so they’re still a bit of a mystery.

Soocial.com
I’m in the process of trying this out. It promises to be the answer to all my “one contact list shared all the places you need it” needs, but I’m not convinced.

arsing about

GWAP games
Infuriatingly simple logic games played against an anonymous internet opponent. That doesn’t stop them being as addictive as crack though. On the upside, they claim that by playing the games you’re being studied, and as a result you’re helping to further research into learning computing. That’s not why I play them though … it’s because they’re like crack.

Sensible Units
Bit of a misnomer this, as the units you can convert are patently not sensible. But don’t let let that stop you finding out that 300 yards is the same as 4.6 Boeing 747s standing side-by-side.

Online Game
The beauty of online games is that there’s always someone who’ll use them just to annoy other people. But it takes a special type of dedication to just sit on a horse on a narrow ledge and kick passers-by into a ravine. Nice work fella.

“Parents” magazine
…or at least it was, until the graphic designer got at it. Now it’s … er … something different.

Shops whose name is a pun
There are 50. Not all 50 are good, but a lot of them are very good, so it’s worth the effort.
